Welcome to the Bioinformatics and Medical Informatics Research Group at the University of Texas at Dallas (BMI@UTD)
- ABOUT US: The BMI@UTD was formed in mid-2005. Members of the group have a diverse set of expertise such as the Computer Science, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Mathematics, and Statistics.
- MISSION: Bioinformatics and Medical Informatics research group at UTD (BMI@UTD) discovers and implements algorithms that facilitate the understanding of biological processes through the application of statistical, data mining, and machine learning techniques. We are also dedicated to the creation of useful, flexible software to help bench scientists, students, and non-specialists find the answers to biologically significant questions.

BMI@UTD is involved in a broad range of research. Our research includes both the theoretical analysis of algorithms and development of and experimentation with practical computational tools.
Here is a brief overview of some of our current research interests:
- Microarray data analysis, and gene regulation network construction
- Proteomic data analysis; biomarker discovery for early disease detection.
- System biology and network biology: Protein-protein interaction network, Gene regulation network, Signaling pathway network, food-web network et al.
- Computer-aided drug design
- Protein structure analysis
- MicroRNA, siRNA prediction and target site prediction
- Phylogenetic tree building and analysis
- Text mining biomedical literature for knowledge discovery
