It is a really good idea, although my math and science experience was good already. I think it will get more students involved in math and science.

I think it's a good idea. Unfortunately, it came too late to help me. It should have been implemented much sooner.

I think the GEMS program is a great idea. Hopefully it will help students succeed and learn more in math and science. Also, I hope GEMS will help students enjoy these courses and not just view them as "required."

I first found out from my supervisor and learned more from a departmental meeting where a QEP committee member spoke.
What do you think of the GEMS program?
I think it will be helpful to students by aligning class curriculum thereby building a better foundation for upper level classes.

How did you find out about GEMS?
The posters. Also, I work in the counseling center. I am currently taking Calc II and Gen Chem II and having a tough time. So when they found out about it they let me know.
What do you think of the GEMS program?
I have a friend that attends The University of AZ. They have already implemented the system after hearing about the success of the program there. I am really looking foward to experiencing it here.

There was a link on the UTD webpage highlighting its creation under the UTD News header. I try to keep up with the happenings on campus, so I read the article.
What do you think of the GEMS program?
I think it’s something that has been needed for a long time. I’m thrilled that chemistry and calculus will soon be courses that are designed to catapult students into their chosen careers instead of hindering the appeal of the more technical career choices.

What do you think of the GEMS program?
I think it's great! I agree UTD should be more about helping students acheive their dreams and goals rather than having them feel discouraged when they are having troubles passing entry-level math and science courses.

Through a recommendation by the McDermott Scholars Program to familiarize myself with GEMS.
What do you think of the GEMS program?
I think it will help a significant number of students succeed in many classes with have previously been considered "weed-out courses."

News department email, was asked to distribute GEMS materials in my building.

I believe curriculum alignment and a problem-based learning setting will help make science and math less intimidating. I hope it works out.

GEMS is a program that will benefit all students in math and science. Through proper assessment and analysis, GEMS not only has the ability to refine curriculum content, but it enhances the quality of instruction.

Some classes, like calculus are vast subjects and have so many applications. I think it is a good idea to focus on what will be required in one's field of work/study, rather than learn something that won't have any practical use in one's career.

1. How many iPod Shuffles are going to be awarded?
30 iPod Shuffles will be awarded.
2. When are the drawings for the iPod Shuffles?
The drawings started on Monday February 11, 2008 and ended on Monday April 21, 2008. A winner is chosen every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday until all 30 iPod Shuffles are gone.
