The PLTL Program at GEMS Receives the STAR Award

Star Award

 

The Texas Higher Education Star Award, recognizes public and independent institutions of higher education; public and private schools and school districts; and organizations, groups, and individuals for their exceptional contributions toward one or more of the goals of Closing the Gaps by 2015, the Texas higher education plan adopted by the Coordinating Board in October 2000. Six Star Award winners emerged from 78 applicants. The selection of the recipients was based on the recommendations of a nine-member panel consisting of Coordinating Board members, Texas community leaders, and out-of-state educational experts. During fall our excellent PLTL leaders facilitated learning for university students in small group classrooms in subjects such as chemistry, physics, and math. Interested in learning more about the Peer-Led Team Learning program? Want to see who our leaders are? Learn more on the Leaders page.


  • The GEMS Math Lab has moved to its own location within the Alexander Clark Center (formerly the Conference Center) to better accommodate our students needs. A video illustrating this great learning environment is under way.
  • The GEMS Writing Center will continue to offer Sunday tutoring in the library this fall. Currently enrolled students may now also have two scheduled appointments per week in the Writing Center CN1.126. Call the office to schedule your appointment.
  • GEMS Success Coaching took off with leaps. This very popular free service for currently enrolled students helps ensure your college experience is a successful one. Call the GEMS Center to set up an appointment with our Success Coach to map out your personal road to college success.
  • Tutors in a variety of subjects are also available to help you become successful with your studies. Spring 2012 tutors and tutoring hours (Coming soon).
  • Need to take the THEA examination? Our testing dates are posted here.

The GEMS Center is part of the Office of Student Success and Assessment and your portal to educational enhancement and educational success. Whether it is individualized tutoring, Peer-Led Team Learning (PLTL), Supplemental Instruction (SI), coordinated group study or another approach to improving academic achievement, our student success team members make every attempt to assist students in achieving their academic goals across a wide variety of subject areas. Check out our existing hours and offerings then, visit our facilities and offices in the Conference Center to learn more about us and--more importantly--the academic subjects in which you most want to excel.

The new learning area at GEMS has been named: The Learning Lounge!

UT Dallas is unique among many comparable colleges and universities for the remarkable amount of resources--human, facilities and technology--which it has dedicated to the GEMS Center. At its core is the GEMS Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP); as part of its broader mission, the Office of Student Success and Assessment is also continually engaged in creating gateways to enhanced mastery and success--GEMS across the disciplines.

 

Where we are and our hours

The GEMS Center with its services are located in the Alexander Clark Center (formerly the Conference Center), centrally located on the UT Dallas campus. Our main office is in the middle of the building, CN1.126. Click each tab above for PC Lab, Math Lab, and Writing Center hours.
