Dean Terry
Dean Terry is a professor of Arts & Technology / Emerging Media at UTD and is Director of the MobileLab & the Virtual Worlds Lab. Professor Terry is one of the co-developers of the Arts & Technology program at the University of Texas at Dallas. The award winning program has grown to over 700 students in just five years and is engaged in a range of innovative research projects that fuse creativity with developing technologies. He created a new degree program in Emerging Media & Communication and directing the Virtual Worlds Lab and MobileLab research programs at UTD. Terry is a transmedia artist, writer, and curator. His most recent media project is the award winning documentary film Subdivided which is currently being broadcast on PBS. His video and film projects have screened at the USA Film Festival, Ann Arbor Film Festival, and Houston International Film Festival and others. He is currently producing a new technology themed digital film which uses, in part, mobile devices as cameras and curating technology related art shows including Real Time at the Contemporary. Terry has written numerous cultural commentary articles for The Dallas Morning News and other publications. Terry is also a media technology & Internet entrepreneur and was co-founder of PixelWave which sold to AtomFilms (AtomShockwave) and subsequently to Viacom. He is a producer of award winning media projects and has won awards for creative excellence in several areas including Best of Show at CTIA / Internet World Wireless. Terry also developed pioneering mobile content projects for Microsoft and Nokia and is currently working with Texas Instruments, Ericsson and other mobile industry partners on an augmented reality platform and next generation mobile content.
