Special Program for Adopted Children from China and their Adoptive Parents
This is a specially designed program for the children adopted from China and their adoptive parents. In the DFW area, there are about 500 families who have adopted children from China. Those adoptive parents hope that their children know where they come from and learn the language and culture of their origin country.
Since the spring of 2009, the Confucius Institute at UT Dallas has been offering Chinese language and culture classes especially customized for those children and their parents on Sunday afternoons. Children from 4 to 12 years old are assigned to different classes according to their ages and language levels. Parents form one class where they receive their language and culture instructions at the same time when their children are enjoying their Chinese classes in the next door classrooms.
The classes meet on Sundays except on holidays.
