Events
The Confucius Institute has planned a series of cultural and artistic events in the future. Major events include:
- A lecture series with eminent speakers in the nation
- A symposium on translation studies
- HSK testing
- To establish a study abroad program or summer camp for UT Dallas students and local children
- To implement Chinese language teaching at local schools
- Confucius Salon - free and open to the public
The Confucius Salon is a free workshop as well as a forum for reading, introducing, and discussing Confucianism sponsored by the Confucius Institute at UT Dallas. While its focus is on reading writings by Confucius, we will also select readings by Mencius, Xunzi and other Confucian thinkers. It will be held continuously, but its frequency will be flexible, depending upon the interest of salon participants. For each session, we will select some primary reading materials on Confucianism and have one speaker briefly introduce the background information of the reading materials. Then, all the participants will read the chosen materials together and hold informal discussions. Our primary objective is to learn about Confucian thought, with an emphasis on understanding the chosen readings in its historical context and discussing their relevance to the contemporary societies in the world. Selected readings will be in both English and Chinese. Anyone interested in Chinese culture in the Dallas-Fort Worth area is welcome. To ensure that every participant will have a copy of the reading materials, please confirm your attendance by sending an email message to Xiaohong Yang or by calling 972-883-4860.
