Chinese Teacher Training Workshops
In order to help local Chinese language teachers improve their professional skills in teaching Chinese language and culture, Confucius Institute at UT Dallas offers Chinese Teacher Training Workshops on weekends of semesters or in summer. The workshops focus on the development of Chinese language teaching proficiencies and cross-cultural communication competencies. The former emphasizes basic teaching skills, including teaching pedagogies, analysis of teaching materials and proven models for teaching Chinese lexicon, grammar, listening, speaking, reading and writing. The latter emphasizes improvement of teachers' comprehensive understanding of intercultural communications, including theories of teaching Chinese as a foreign language, and interpreting/transmitting traditional Chinese cultural values within a global context.
The workshops are sponsored by Hanban/the Headquarters of Confucius Institute in Beijing, and designed in partnership with the School of Arts & Humanities at the UT Dallas, which ensures that every participant receives the "best of the best" instructors, materials and pedagogies. Teachers who finish the workshops will be awarded certificates issued respectively by Hanban and the School of Arts & Humanities at UT Dallas, as well as Continuing Education Credits of the School.
Confucius Institute at UT Dallas has successfully held the National Consortium for Teaching about Asia Workshops(co-sponsored by UNT) in 2009-2010, and Summer Training Workshops for Chinese Language Teachers in 2010. Both have attracted more than 200 local teachers to attend.
Confucius Institute at UT Dallas also selects some local teachers on behalf of the Headquarters to attend training workshops in China.
