The Center for the Interdisciplinary Study of Museums (CISM) was founded in 1996 by Dr. Richard R. Brettell, Margaret McDermott Distinguished Chair of Arts and Aesthetics, as a scholarly center for museum related projects. Since its founding, CISM has grown and is now among the most important centers for the study of museums in the nation. Bonnie Pitman, Distinguished Scholar in Residence joined Dr. Brettell as co-Director for CISM in 2012.
