Pursuing a doctorate in Aesthetics Studies at The University of Texas at Dallas, Edleeca Thompson did an internship at the Dallas Museum of Art (DMA) from June 14th, 2011 through June 14th 2013 under the supervision of Dr. Roslyn Walker, The Margaret McDermott Curator of African Art at the Dallas Museum of Art.
- Project description: Responsibilities for the project involved assisting Dr. Walker in the planning and research for the reinstallation of the African galleries at the DMA. The first phase of research involved travel to museums in Europe and the United States to observe, photograph, and record the best practices in gallery design, installation, color scheme, interactive and interpretive media, and educational programming for newly installed collections. The second phase of research involved compiling and organizing the information gathered into a useable gallery critique form created by the research assistant. The form included information on installation design, interactive media devices, traffic patterns, curatorial and educational information, public programming, website information, and visitor observations for each museum visited.
