“Chinese Bridge” Summer Camp for High School Students

To promote exchange between the youth of China and the US, and enhance the understanding of high school students of Chinese language and culture, thus to stimulate their interest in learning Chinese language and culture, the Confucius Institute Headquarters/Hanban has been sponsoring the "Chinese Bridge" Summer Camp for high school students since 2007. Over 5,000 high schools students around the U. S. have attended the camp since then.

During the 3 week-long camp in China, students will study Chinese language and culture (paper-cutting, calligraphy, brush painting, tea ceremony, martial arts, etc.) in traditional classrooms, and participate in various sports and cultural activities (a friendly basketball match, international student get-together, host family experience, etc.); they will also experience various points of interest of China's long history, and viewing sites of natural beauty. Daily itineraries and curricula will be developed by schools and provincial departments of education.

Confucius Institute at UT Dallas helps the Headquarters/ Hanban organize the Summer Camp in the DFW area. Its duties include publicizing the Camp, screening and communicating with the applicants, answering questions, coordinating between the Headquarters and the participants, etc., which have to be facilitated in the US.
