DESCRIPTION OF COURSE:

J.K. Rowling’s series of novels about a boy wizard’s years of education now stands complete, but the Harry Potter phenomenon has only begun to make its mark on the global culture. In this course, we will read the seven novels in print and look at other chronicles of Harry’s progress through our individual and collective imaginations.

REQUIRED TEXTS:

The following editions are available at the UTD Book Store, Off-Campus Books, and commercially. Please use only the American editions of the novels, published by Scholastic Press, in the trade size.

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

COURSE REQUIREMENTS/EVALUATION CRITERIA:

Course requirements include three in-class examinations and a final project, each worth 25% of your course grade. Issues of attendance and participation will settle borderline course grades.
