Course Title:
Contemporary American Literature

DESCRIPTION OF COURSE:

Surveys American writers, styles, and movements from the past few decades. This course will focus on significant literary trends in poetry, drama, and fiction from the 1950s to the present. Particular attention will be devoted to various conceptions of "realism" in American literature since World War II.

REQUIRED TEXTS:

The Norton Anthology of American Literature, 7th Edition: Volume E (1945-present).
McCarthy, Cormac. No Country for Old Men.
Sebold, Alice. The Lovely Bones.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS/EVALUATION CRITERIA:

One paper, short writings, presentations, midterm and final exam.
