Course Title:
Intermediate Jazz Dance

DESCRIPTION OF COURSE:

In this class students will study jazz dance technique at a intermediate I-II level. Jazz dance will be taught through the practice of technique, supplemented with attendance at performances, and viewing of videos.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS/EVALUATION CRITERIA:

Student evaluation will be based on quality of participation, attendance, individual improvement, and writing assignments. Attendance at two dance performances and a written analysis from at least one concert will be required. Students should master specific movements, performance skills, and a strong dance vocabulary by the completion of the course. Oral, physical, or written quizzes may be given to evaluate these skills.

20% Attendance
40% Participation
20% Performance attendance and analysis
10% Skill and vocabulary
10% Final Project

Prerequisite: Minimum of 9 hours in lower division ballet, modern, or jazz dance or permission of the instructor
