DESCRIPTION OF COURSE:

THIS COURSE IS AVAILABLE TO DOCTORAL STUDENTS ONLY

This course will study the history of modern poetry and poetics in Latin America. In particular, we will focus on the genre's relationship to Latin American political and cultural discourses. Students in this seminar will not be expected to have had previous training in the study of poetry or Latin American literature; therefore, one of the aims of the seminar will be to introduce students to the methods of analysis and argumentation required for doctoral-level literary studies.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS/EVALUATION CRITERIA:

Three short papers (10%), final paper (50%), participation (20%).
