Creating Fictions Advanced

DESCRIPTION OF COURSE:

THIS COURSE IS AVAILABLE TO DOCTORAL STUDENTS ONLY.

PERMISSION OF INSTRUCTOR IS REQUIRED.

This course will be an advanced fiction writing studio course that will permit experienced writing students an opportunity to develop a single work into a publishable form. Multiple fiction forms will be included, particularly the short story, novella, and full novel.
The course will proceed as a lecture/discussion/workshop. Considerable emphasis and discussion will be devoted to the theory and practice of writing fiction for a contemporary market. It will be an intensive reading and writing course, with students providing mutual critique and feedback of peer work.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS/EVALUATION CRITERIA:

Permission of instructor is required.

Complete and full attendance will be required. Students enrolling in this course should have a minimum of nine hours of graduate creative writing coursework in their background. Students working on longer forms should also have a working draft already underway.
