DESCRIPTION OF COURSE:

MUSI 2315 Guitar I
An Introductory class in the basic skills of Classical and finger-style guitar for both beginning and intermediate students. This course focuses on basic musical elements (melodic, harmonic, rhythmic, etc.) as well as the comprehension and application of musical notation to the guitar and the universal musical language. Technical focus is on correct posture, hand positions, accurate tuning, playing alone and with others. Serves as a prerequisite for Guitar II and Guitar Ensemble. May be repeated for credit (9 hours maximum).

REQUIRED TEXTS:

Frederick M. Noad’s “Solo Guitar Playing - 1” Third or Fourth Edition.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS/EVALUATION CRITERIA:

There is a required text book and an electronic tuner is strongly suggested as well as a classical guitar player’s footstool. Every member of this class is required to obtain a guitar for the semester though it is not required that they own it. If needed a guitar may be rented through UTD guitar department (contact instructor to reserve this service as supplies are limited).
