Course Title:
Wind Ensemble

DESCRIPTION OF COURSE:

The wind ensemble will be comprised of the usual compliment of instruments found in a concert band such as flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, trumpet, horn, trombone, saxophones, and percussionist trained in rudiments or mallets (not drum set). Music will be selected based on experience and instrumentation. This is not a beginning class; students must have had previous experience performing in an ensemble. In addition, the wind ensemble will work in conjunction with the string ensemble to present a concert of orchestral music.

REQUIRED TEXTS:

Most ensemble music will be provided by the instructor. Additional music may need to be purchased by the student. There will also be additional Readings from Aaron Copland and Leonard Bernstein.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS/EVALUATION CRITERIA:

Students must supply their own instruments and accessories, such as reeds, tuners, and metronomes. Students will be expected to regularly practice parts and prepare music for rehearsal and performance. Attendance is mandatory. Students will be required to attend and critique two concerts during the semester.
