Course Title:
Exploration of the Arts

DESCRIPTION OF COURSE:

This course introduces students to the physical and intellectual demands required of the author, the performer, and the visual artist. This introduction to the arts includes, but is not limited to, the students' production of a creative project as well as written assessments of art works and performances. Topics will include painting, sculpture, architecture, film, photography, dance, video art, theater, literature, and the interdisciplinary nature of the creative arts.

Martin, F. David and Jacobus, Lee A. The Humanities Through the Arts Eighth Edition McGraw-Hill

COURSE REQUIREMENTS/EVALUATION CRITERIA:

Written assignments include two critiques and two "Event Papers" from four different artistic disciplines: painting, theater, classical music, and dance. In addition to the collaborative final presentation, there will be at least nine quizzes, and two exams. Regular attendance is expected. There are no pre-requisites or co-requisites required for this class.There will be additional readings on eLearning. Also needed: 20 3x5 cards for quizzes and in-class assignments.
