Course Title:
Creating Short Fictions

DESCRIPTION OF COURSE:

This course is an investigation in a workshop environment of the aesthetics of the art and creation of the short story, focusing on the creative techniques and processes involved in producing short stories in a variety of experimental and traditional forms that may later be combined with the visual and performing arts.

Janet Burroway: A GUIDE TO NARRATIVE CRAFT (eighth edition only).
Jerome Stern: MAKING SHAPELY FICTION any edition).
Strunk and White: THE ELEMENTS OF STYLE any edition).

Suggested for Students who may have a deficiency in English grammar and syntax:

Michael Kardos, THE ART AND CRAFT OF FICTION.
