Modern II

DESCRIPTION OF COURSE:

In this class students will study modern dance technique at a beginning II/intermediate level. Modern dance will be taught through the practice of technique, supplemented with attendance at performances, and viewing of videos.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS/EVALUATION CRITERIA:

Student evaluation will be based on quality of participation, attendance, individual improvement, and writing assignments. The student must attend two live dance performances and write an analysis using the guidelines handed out in class. Specific movements must be accomplished and the student should have a strong dance vocabulary by the completion of the course. Oral, physical, and/or written quizzes may be given to evaluate these skills.

20% Attendance
40% Participation
20% Performance attendance and analysis
10% Skill and vocabulary
10% Final Project

Prerequisite: Minimum of 9 hours in lower division ballet, jazz, modern dance, or permission of the instructor
