Course Title:
Music Theory I

DESCRIPTION OF COURSE:

Students will acquire basic writing skills in music. Work includes written assignments in harmony and composition, analysis of representative works from the literature, kyeboard harmony, ear training, and singing in solfege.

REQUIRED TEXTS:

Music in Theory and Practice, Vol. I, 8th Edition (workbook included) -- Benward and Saker
(Beware of used and marked-up books!)

COURSE REQUIREMENTS/EVALUATION CRITERIA:

Students should have prior knowledge of music fundamentals. The course will begin with a short review of fundamentals (scales, keysignatures, intervals, chords.)
