Creating Music

DESCRIPTION OF COURSE:

This course counts toward the upper level theory component of the Music Minor.

MUSI 4348 will explore the creative process and the construction of music for film and video and/or for the concert hall. The class will compare musical examples from a wide array of styles and periods and survey software applications used in the professional world of composing and audio design. This semester will include projects manipulating recorded sounds with music and producing musical clips for underscoring spoken word or short films.

Students will work individually and in teams to complete in-class projects using the vocal/instrumental skills of fellow classmates. Emphasis will be placed upon discovery and practical application of musical skills that lead to expression in music.

Prerequisite: Music Theory I or by permission of instructor. Students should contact mary.medrick@utdallas.edu for more information.
