Course Title:
Advanced Spanish Culture

DESCRIPTION OF COURSE:

This advanced course will explore Hispanic culture and civilization beyond that which is studied in beginning and intermediate Spanish courses, from its origins, to its contemporary expressions in Spain, Latin America, and the Hispanic communities in the U.S.A. Traditional elements and new trends of Hispanic culture, as revealed in the arts, music, film and literature, will be covered. (Classes will be conducted in Spanish with occasional use of English for clarification of difficult concepts only.)

REQUIRED TEXTS:

CivilizaciĆ³n y cultura, 11th edition, Sandstedt and Kite. (Heinle/Cengage)

COURSE REQUIREMENTS/EVALUATION CRITERIA:

To enroll in this course, students must have completed Spanish 2312 or a higher-level course at UTD or at another college/university. All other students, regardless of their background or previous language experience, must take the online placement exam located here:
