Course Title:
Photography and New Media

DESCRIPTION OF COURSE:

This studio art course provides instruction in digital photography, including camera operation, image capture, lighting techniques, and digital workflow. The course will emphasize the relationship between still image capture and applications in new media contexts, such as networked environments and moving or animated images. Class problems will prioritize output to screen and web. Discussions will address the work of contemporary artists who embrace various strategies for electronic distribution of images.

REQUIRED TEXTS:

Students will need to supply their own digital camera for use in this course, with a resolution of at least 3 megapixels, as well as storage media to archive image files. Questions regarding cameras may be directed to the instructor.
Students should obtain Adobe Photoshop or Adobe Creative Suite CS--see UTD technology store for UT discount--OR Adobe Lightroom for use on their home computer and will be responsible for the costs of print output and storage media.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS/EVALUATION CRITERIA:

Course requirements to be announced.
Command of general computer skills and file management skills for a MAC or PC operating system is expected.

Prerequisite: ARTS 1316 or ARTS 2316 or ARTS 2350 or ARTS 2380 or ATEC 2382 or instructor consent required.
