Course Title:
Color Photography

DESCRIPTION OF COURSE:

This studio art course provides instruction in digital photography, including camera operation, image capture, lighting techniques, and digital workflow. Examination of the functions of light and color, crucial elements in the context of image capture, will be central to the course. Students will gain a heightened sensitivity to color, an awareness of the potential of the medium, and a strong foundation in color theory. The class will discuss the work of contemporary artists who use color as a central element in their work.

REQUIRED TEXTS:

Students must supply their own DSLR or Digital single lens reflex camera for use in this course (i.e. Nikon D3100, Canon Digital Rebel, etc.). Questions regarding cameras should be directed to the instructor.
Students should obtain Adobe Photoshop or Adobe Creative Suite CS--see UTD technology store for UT discount--OR Adobe Lightroom for use on their home computer and will be responsible for the costs of print output and storage media.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS/EVALUATION CRITERIA:

Prerequisite: ARTS 1316 or ARTS 2316 or ARTS 2350 or ARTS 2380 or ATEC 2382 or consent of instructor. Command of general computer skills and file management skills for a MAC or PC operating system is expected.
