Course Title
Modern II

Description of Course:

Modern II is for the dancer with experience in modern or ballet technique. The course will work on growth in modern dance technique starting at a level akin to beginning-intermediate technique and progressing toward intermediate-advanced technique. Understanding of alignment, performance skills, and modern dance vocabulary is developed through intermediate level technique and exercises. Fall semester students may perform in the Winter Arts Festival held at the end of the semester. Technique performance quizzes will be given at mid- semester and at the end of the semester.

Course Requirements/Evaluation Criteria:

Prerequisite is 3 semesters of beginning dance technique or permission of instructor. Students will keep a journal and turn it in for review at least 4 times during the semester. Students will attend and write an analysis of one live modern dance performance and one video performance and will be expected to attend one - two additional live modern dance performances.
