Course Title
Music Theory II

Description of Course:

Students will acquire basic writing skills in music. Work includes written assignments in harmony, analysis of representative works from the literature, keyboard harmony, ear training, and singing in solfege.

This course is a continuation of Theory I, and covers part-writing, harmonic progressions, seventh chords, secondary dominants, modulation, and form.

Required Texts:

Music in Theory and Practice, Vol. I, 8th or 9th Edition (workbook included)-Benward and Saker

Continuing students may still use the 8th Edition. The new 9th Edition should be available in the UTD and off-campus bookstores. If ordering online, allow for time to receive both text and workbook by the first week of class. Beware of used books with missing and marked-in pages. New students may use either edition.
