Frost and Stevens

Description of Course:

This seminar surveys the poetry of Robert Frost and Wallace Stevens over the course of their careers. While concentrating on their shorter, lyrical poems, we shall also read a few of Stevens's longer poems (e.g., "The Man with the Blue Guitar" and "Notes Toward a Supreme Fiction" ) and some of Frost's dramatic poems. The two poets' essays on technique and the role of poetry will also be considered.

Course Requirements/Evaluation Criteria:

Students will write a research paper of about 15 pages (60% of grade) and give an oral presentation of about 45 minutes (20%). Class participation is important (20%).
