Course Title
The Guitar: Medieval to Modern

Description of Course:

The Guitar: Medieval to Modern is an interdisciplinary course focusing on the arts of the guitar and its relatives in the plucked string family. The best examples of music featuring these plucked string instruments dates from the Middle Ages to Modernity, however, the history of the guitar and its relatives dates back much farther, even thousands of years to Egypt and Mesapotamia. Thus, we will read the history, hear the music, study the iconography, and learn of the literary references to the guitar in its history.

All A&H graduate students in good standing are welcome in this course. No prior musical experience is required.
