Course Title
Modern British Literature

Description of Course:

This course focuses on the most controversial period (Modern) and style of British literature (Modernism). Themes include the rise of autonomous art ("art for art's sake"), Modernism versus Realism,the "aesthetic of difficulty," changing conceptions of the self in the twentieth century, and the relationship between literature and other arts (particularly film).

Course Requirements/Evaluation Criteria:

Major paper, class presentations, midterm and final.
