Portfolio and Studio Lighting

Description of Course:

PORTFOLIO & STUDIO LIGHTING
This advanced photography course is designed to foster student confidence in the areas of both artistic development and technical skill through workshops and critiques.

CREATIVE PORTFOLIO: Students will engage in generating a portfolio of images, a coherent body of work based upon a theme, concept, or selected subject matter. The class will discuss topics such as locating an individual voice, refining a working process, considering methods for presentation and distribution of photographs, and reflecting on current issues in contemporary art. Students will gain experience through participation in a group exhibition.

STUDIO LIGHTING: Class workshops will introduce strobe lighting for studio applications. Through collaboration, students will explore options for lighting still life compositions, portraits, and staged events.

Course Requirements/Evaluation Criteria:

Prerequisite: ARTS 3371 or ARTS 3372 or ARTS 3377 or ARTS 3379 or prior college level coursework in photography with consent of instructor.
Evaluation will be based on attendance, participation, class assignments, student progress reviews, artist statement, short essay on selected artist, and an individual final portfolio.
