Description of Course:

This Jazz I course is designed for students who wish to develop skills and technique in American Jazz dance. In this class, students will study jazz dance technique at a Beginning level. Beginning Jazz dance will be taught through the practice of jazz technique and combinations of jazz dance movements. This Beg. Jazz class will be supplemented with attendance at performances and viewing of videos.

Student Learning Objectives/Outcomes
Students will learn jazz dance movements and jazz dance vocabulary during class sessions. This will enable them to execute movement connected together within a movement phrase at an beginning level of dance through their daily participation in class. Students are encouraged to explore their unique individuality through tap combinations while gaining confidence and attempting new challenges.

Course Requirements/Evaluation Criteria:

For the Jazz I course students are required to wear dance or workout clothing as well as jazz shoes or dance sneakers. Loose fitting street clothes and extremely short shorts are not appropriate for class. Acceptable attire would be leotards, bike shorts, fitness tops, sweat pants, leggings and t-shirts. Jazz shoes or dance sneakers are required for this course. A theraband or exercise band for stretching in class with proper alignment is required for all daily classes.
