Description of Course:

This course will explore philosophical ideas from antiquity to the Renaissance. To facilitate and support this exploration we will study select texts from the time periods under consideration. Authors will likely include Heraclitus, Plato, Aristotle, Lucretius, Seneca, Augustine, Anselm, Eckhart, Machiavelli, and Montaigne. While we will consider the questions and issues each author raises individually, we will also pay particular attention to the relationship between the contemplative philosophical life and the life of action.
