Holly Lynn Exhibition: One with Nature
Venue: Visual Arts Building Main Gallery
Closing Reception: Friday, August 30, 2013, 6:30 – 8:30 pm
“Our relationship exists with nature, only because we exist as well. By focusing on the fine details, rather than viewing nature in its fullness, the mind can become more in tune to a new world and a new outlook.”
Holly Lynn reconsiders how we define the term “Nature” in her constellation of photographs combining the silhouettes of the body with textures found in the environment. She states:
“Our relationship exists with nature, only because we exist as well. By focusing on the fine details, rather than viewing nature in its fullness, the mind can become more in tune to a new world and a new outlook. We are subconsciously in a web, which has always connected us with all other things. We participate in the relationship with Nature in two ways: letting it surround us, or standing from a distance. As we form a relationship with the world around us, we become involved emotionally and actively.”
The artist notes that, “We are bound to Nature.” By using digital montage to fuse shapes relating to the human form with patterns found in the landscape, she underscores our biological connection to the earth.
Holly Lynn is native to the North Texas area where she freelances as a photographer, specializing in portraiture. She is a graduating senior in Art and Performance at the University of Texas at Dallas, with an emphasis on photography. Her photographic series “Personal Space” was featured in the 2013 publication of the Exley, and also received the Dean’s Award in the context of the 2012 Spring Show exhibition at UT-Dallas. She has participated in several juried and invitational art exhibitions in the DFW metroplex, and has often received juror’s awards.
