UT Dallas Drumline Auditions

The UTD Drumline invites anyone with prior battery or front ensemble experience to audition for its inaugural season. To register for an audition, please fill out the 2016 UTD Drumline Audition Registration Form at https://goo.gl/forms/0kZtxMn1GfXHYfuo1.

The drumline rehearses on Mondays and Thursdays 4:00–5:15. You will need to enroll in MUSI 4V12.003 to participate in this ensemble. Contact Lori Gerard, [email protected], for an enrollment permission number.

Rhythmic accuracy
Sound quality

Snare drummers may play matched or traditional grip, flat or tilted, whichever you are most comfortable with.

Play the version of the following exercises that you know best, on whichever instrument(s) you would like to be considered. Snare, tenors, bass, and cymbals will be provided:
Accent Tap
Double Beat
Double stroke roll (duple & triple base)
Flam Accent
Flam Tap

The reading exercises will be given to you at the audition. They will be straighforward and will cover fundamentals.

Optional: play any short (≤ 2:30) rudimental solo on snare or tenors that best demonstrates your current abilities.

There is no front ensemble. Sorry. If mallets and/or concert percussion are your thing, then check out the UTD Wind Ensemble (MUSI 3120). Also, percussion ensemble takes place during the Spring semester. Percussion Ensemble will be listed in Coursebook as “MUSI 4V12: Adv Perf I - Percussion Ens” when the Spring 2017 Course Offerings are published.
