Film Screening: The Sultan and the Saint

Saturday, November 11, 2017, 3:30 p.m.
Venue: ATC 1.102
Admission: Free
Season: 2017-18

A screening of the film, The Sultan and the Saint followed by a short discussion session.

The Sultan and the Saint tells the story of Francis of Assisi and the Sultan of Egypt, and of their meeting on a bloody battlefield during the period of Christian-Muslim conflict known as the Crusades.

This remarkable encounter, and the commitment to peace of the two men behind it, sucked the venom out of the Crusades and changed the relationship between Muslims and Christians.

The story is brought to life through dramatic reenactments and renowned scholarship.  Scholars interviewed include Michael Cusato (St. Bonaventure University), Sr. Kathy Warren (Sisters of St. Francis), Suleiman Mourad (Smith College), Homayra Ziad, Institute for Christian & Jewish Studies and Paul Moses (The Saint and the Sultan).
