Photography Exhibit Opens Eclectic Arts Week at UT Dallas

Luis Mallo, Passengers, included in Comer Collection The unveiling of a new exhibit of images Tuesday from the Jerry and Marilyn Comer Photography Collection kicks off a varied week of arts events at UT Dallas. The opening reception for will be Tuesday, Feb. 7, at 2 p.m. in the University Theatre Gallery.This exhibit invites viewers to consider how they discover affinities for specific photographs. The photos are by such artists as Larry Fink, Andrea Modica, Luis Mallo, Rufus O. Lovett, Andres Serrano and Paula Willmot Kraus. read more

George Henson, a PhD Candidate in Humanities, has recently translated a collection of short stories by prominent Mexican author Elena Poniatowska under the title The Heart of the Artichoke. George Henson, a PhD Candidate in Humanities, has recently translated a collection of short stories by prominent Mexican author Elena Poniatowska under the title The Heart of the Artichoke. Henson said the collection of stories illustrates Mexico's rich cultural tapestry."These are stories about servants and matriarchs, street sweepers and sorceresses, shop keepers, nannies, mothers, travelers and addicts. They are stories of broken lives and broken hearts, of betrayal and rebirth," said Henson. read more

Claire Myers Owens Travel and Research Award: Application Deadline - March 15, 2012

The School of Arts and Humanities at The University of Texas at Dallas is pleased to announce the Claire Myers Owens Travel and Research Award. Drs. Miriam Kalman Friedman BA'80, MA'85, PhD'97 and Robert H. Friedman established this award to honor Claire Myers Owens (1896-1983). The award will assist qualified doctoral students with travel expenses to professional conferences or travel expenses to archives and/or places of interest relevant to their doctoral research.
