Blake Kimzey grew up in small-town Texas. He is a 2014 graduate of the MFA Programs In Writing at UC Irvine and is the recipient of a generous 2013 Emerging Writer Grant from The Elizabeth George Foundation.

Blake is the author of the story collection Families Among Us. His work has been broadcast on NPR, performed on stage in Los Angeles, and published by Tin House, FiveChapters, Byliner, Puerto del Sol, The Los Angeles Review, Short Fiction, Mid-American Review, The Lifted Brow, PANK, Fiction Southeast, Juked, Keyhole, Monkeybicycle, and anthologized in Surreal South ’13. He recently finished writing his first novel.

Blake has received fellowships to attend The Squaw Valley Community of Writers as well as The Vermont Studio Center. Prior to coming to UTD, he taught creative writing, literary journalism, and composition at UC Irvine. Blake lives in Dallas with his wife, visual artist Danielle Huey Kimzey, and their two children.
