Janet Johnson is a Senior Lecturer for the School of Arts and Humanities and teaches courses in COMM, EMAC and ATEC.
Her professional history includes such jobs as a broadcast news producer, strategic coordinator for Audience Research and Development, a media-consulting firm, and marketing director for her brother's e-commerce business.
In August 2004, she received her MA at UNT. Johnson's degree is in journalism with a minor in communications. Her research interests include the media with a heavy emphasis on new media. She is interested in how the Internet is changing our media culture and vision of community through such venues as Weblogs. Johnson's research shows how the ritual of communication is the root of online civic discourse as proven in the days of the 17th and 18th century British coffeehouses. Currently she is studying how technology has changed the rhetorical presidential campaign. Her dissertation was titled ?Blogs and Dialogism in the United States 2008 Presidential Campaign?
Janet Johnson is co-faculty sponsor for the RSA chapter. This past January, she helped bring Renowned Rhetorician Dr. Richard Enos to speak to faculty and students.
