Rhetoric 1302: Attendance Policy

Ultimately, you are responsible for setting and enforcing your own class attendance policy. However, there are some considerations you and your students should be aware of.

  • Prompt and regular attendance is expected of every student. Attendance records are kept and lack of attendance will lower a student's final grade.
  • Excused absences may be granted for medical/health issues (student must provide official documentation from a doctor proving the student was under medical care at the time of the missed class), family deaths (student must provide a copy of the funeral program/announcement), and University-sponsored activities (athletics, etc). It is the student's responsibility to provide documentation for any missed classes. If they do not, then absences can only be considered unexcused.
  • After three unexcused absences, final grades may be lowered. Students are responsible for all work missed due to their absence from class. Alternative assignments are not given, nor should the instructor "re-teach" missed classes for individual students.
