Rhetoric 1302: Classroom Policy

Here are some considerations regarding your use of the Rhetoric 1302 classrooms. Please note that in addition to your expectations and requirements as an instructor, you also have responsibilities and expectations to help maintain and secure the classroom environment. More information is provided below.

Classroom Security

You are responsible for helping to protect the computer equipment in each Rhetoric classroom from theft and damage. Whenever your class ends you should clear the classroom of students and lock the door as you exit. You may not leave students working in the classroom, or allow other students to enter the room, unless you plan to stay in the classroom yourself, or unless the instructor for the class following yours arrives.

Classroom Environment

Each Rhetoric classroom is smoke-free and drug-free. Smoking and the use of drugs are prohibited inside University buildings and in the classrooms.
The possession of firearms, weapons of any kinds, or explosive materials on University premises and in the classrooms is prohibited.

Food and eating are not allowed in the Rhetoric classrooms at any time.

Persons with Disabilities

The University of Texas at Dallas is committed to support the Americans with Disabilities Act. Any student with special needs should contact the Office of Disability Services (972-883-2098) prior to enrollment. An instructor with special needs should discuss those needs directly with the Director of Rhetoric.

You must include a statement in your syllabus notifying students of their responsibility to contact and register with the Office of Disability Services.
Here is an example statement:

Students needing academic accommodations for a disability must contact the Office of Disability Services (972-883-2098), to verify the disability and establish eligibility for accommodations. Students with disabilities are responsible to make their disabilities known and to meet all course expectations, including attendance, participation, performance, and work standards.
