Students will need to demonstrate, develop,
and extend certain skills to be successful in
this course:
Writing
Students must know something of effective writing
and its conventions. They must be willing to
apply what they know, and strive to learn something
new.
Reading
Writing and reading are intimately connected.
One requires the other. This course requires
a great deal of reading and analysis and evaluation
of that reading.
Speaking
Rhetoric is, originally, a spoken art. Significant
portions of this course require students to
speak, to discuss, and to debate. They must
demonstrate their engagement with course materials
and concepts through frequent insightful discussion.
Technology
A great deal of this course involves the use
of computer technology. It is expected that
students are familiar and comfortable with computers
and their use in a number of ways:
