The Bryce and Jonelle Jordan Scholarship for Creative and Performing Arts
Application for 2013 - 2014

Requirements
  • Scholarships are awarded to undergraduates. Scholarships are awarded to applicants who are or will be full-time students (undergraduates must be enrolled in 12 SCH).
  • Preference is given to students who major in degrees offered by the School of Arts and Humanities. Scholarships may be given to students who minor in the arts.
  • Scholarship recipients must enroll in at least one course in the Art and Performance area each semester (usually an upper level performing ensemble or studio course, or an upper level creative writing course).
  • Students must have at least a 3.0 GPA to qualify for the award and to continue to receive the award.
  • If a student drops a course and/or earns less than the required GPA, s/he will be placed on probation the following semester and her/his case will be reviewed by the Bryce Jordan Scholarship committee at the end of the probationary semester.
  • Students who receive the award for a specific academic year must reapply to receive the award the following academic year.
  • Students can apply during their junior year but will receive one-half of the award (for the fall semester of their senior year) if they graduate in December. They will not be funded as UT Dallas graduate students.
  • Students can reapply for the Bryce and Jonelle Jordan Scholarship up to four academic years (not including graduate school).  Students who reapply are required to complete a  new application and essay and provide new recommendation letters and work sample.

Students should submit the following materials:

  1. Essay (approximately 250-300 words). Please address the following:. What role will the arts play in your education? What contribution have you made or plan to make to the arts program at UT Dallas? What courses will you enroll in as a part of this contribution?
  2. Two letters of recommendation from a teacher, counselor and/or creative artist who is familiar with your work.  The letters should include information relating to your prior and/or current accomplishments in and contributions to your artistic field.
  3. Work sample. Materials will not be returned.
    Music: CD, no more than 10 minutes in length, plus musical score, if applicable
    Theatre and Dance: Video, no more than 10 minutes in length, DVD format
    Visual Arts: 8-10 image files (jpg) on a CD; no portfolios please
    Creative Writing: Poems or an excerpt of a short story or longer work of fiction, 4-6 pages, double-spaced with a 12 point font (Times New Roman). Submitted samples longer than 6 pages will be examined from the beginning of the sample, at the committee's discretion.
    ATEC: No more than 10 minutes of video animation, lvl design, or gameplay; or no more than 6-8 digital images
