Short Stories

Dhruba Karki is a Ph. D. student in the School of Arts and Humanities at the University of Texas at Dallas. Also a teaching assistant, Dhruba readily volunteers for various activities organized by the Graduate Students’ Association (GSA) and UTD. Interested in the study of the hero in modern time, Dhruba has formal training in teaching and has taken a series of courses on contemporary film and fiction in four different schools in the U.S. and Nepal. With his cheerful disposition, Dhruba likes to help his friends and students despite busy semester schedules. Currently, Dhruba is the Secretary of Sojourn.

Sharmistha Basu is a second year Ph. D. student at UTD. She also teaches Rhetoric 1302 at the university. She has held her TA position since her introduction to the department in fall 2005. She also previously taught rhetoric at The University of Texas at Arlington from 2002-2005 and gained valuable experience as a Writing Center tutor at UTA. Sharmistha holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in English from the University of Calcutta, India and a master’s degree in English from the University of Texas at Arlington.

Poetry

Hilary Simon graduated magna cum laude from Columbia University with a B.A. in French and Romance Philology. As an undergrad, she studied abroad at Columbia’s Paris program and at the Université de Paris IV (Sorbonne). She has also studied French in Toulouse and Spanish in Barcelona. She is a member of Sojourn, Golden Key International Honour Society, Mensa, and the Rhetoric Society of America. At UTD, she is currently pursuing her M.A. in Humanities with a concentration in Literary Studies.

Lauren Dixon is a poet and translator whose work has appeared in the online journal Superficial Flesh. She recently appeared as a featured reader in Word Space’s Writers in the Universities series and was previously nominated for the Best New Poets of 2006 Anthology, published by Meridian. She holds an MFA in Creative Writing-Poetry from Texas State University in San Marcos, and is currently pursuing a doctoral degree in Translation and Literary Studies at the University of Texas at Dallas.
