NTA Winner 1998 The 1998 National Translation Award winner is Carolyn Tipton for her translation of To Painting: Poems by Rafael Alberti . Carolyn Tipton is a poet and translator of Spanish and French poetry. Her work has appeared in various journals and anthologies, including Norton’s World Poetry: An Anthology of Verse from Antiquity to Our Time. She received her M.A. in English from Stanford University, and her doctorate from the University of California at Berkeley where she currently teaches Literature and Writing in the Freshmen Program. She served for three years on the board of ALTA. Her translation of To Painting: Poems by Rafael Alberti was also a finalist for the P.E.N.
