Indiana University was proud to host the 2013 ALTA annual conference in Bloomington, IN from October 16-19, 2013. The conference took place at the Indiana Memorial Union Hotel and Conference Center in the heart of campus. The theme for the conference was “The Nexus of Translation,” which encompasses both the ways that translation functions as a connecting point for different cultures and also the means (publishing, sponsorship, and teaching) by which translations come into being and find an audience. Keynote presentations by Maureen Freely and Cole Swensen were part of the highlighted sessions.
During the conference, ALTA also hosted the first Founders’ Dinner on Saturday, October 19, celebrating ALTA’s history, its founders, and its critical role in sustaining the availability of world literature in translation. [More details]
