The 2013 ALTA conference keynote speakers were Maureen Freely, translator of several of Turkish Nobel laureate Orhan Pamuk’s books, and poet-translator Cole Swensen. Swensen’s talk was entitled “Friendly Translation.”
Freely is a regular contributor to The Guardian and teaches at the University of Warwick. Swensen has written fourteen books of poetry and translated more than a dozen volumes from the French. She is founding editor of La Presse and teaches at Brown University.
