Bio: John Taylor was born in 1952 in Des Moines, Iowa. He has lived in France since 1977. As a critic, he has long been a regular contributor to the Times Literary Supplement. For the Antioch Review, he writes the "Poetry Today" column, which is devoted to foreign literature in translation. His critical essays have been gathered in his three-volume collection "Paths to Contemporary French Literature" (Transaction, 2004, 2007, 2011) and in "Into the Heart of European Poetry" (Translation, 2008). He is also the author of eight books of prose and poetry, the most recent of which are "The Apocalypse Tapestries" (Xenos, 2004), "If Night is Falling" (Bitter Oleander, 2012) and "Now the Summer Came to Pass" (Xenos, 2012).

Awards: Winner of a 2011 NEA Translation Grant for the projet to translate Georges Perros's "Papiers collés". Winner of grants from the Sonia Raiziss Charitable Foundation (Italian-American Association) in 2010 and 2012 for projects entailing the translation of books by Philippe Jaccottet and Catherine Colomb, and in 2013 for a project involving an anthology of contemporary French and Francophone prose poetry. Winner of the 2013 Raziss-de Palchi fellowship, from the American Academy of Poets, for the project to translate the poetry of Lorenzo Calogero.
