How It Started
The U. T. Dallas Alumni Fund-Student Grant Program began in the Fall of 2005 when funds were identified by President David E. Daniel to be used in support of programs and projects that directly benefit the students at The University of Texas at Dallas.
Under the direction of Dr. Darrelene Rachavong, Vice President of Student Affairs, a committee of student affairs staff, development officers, faculty, and student representatives was formed to oversee the selection process for grant awards.
Grants of up to $5,000 are awarded based on guidelines established by the committee. The grant process is open to all U. T. Dallas recognized departments and units. Preference is given to proposals submitted by students. Applications may also be submitted on-line.

The UTD Alumni Student Grant Program recently approved a proposal submitted on behalf of the Robotics Society, a student organization affiliated with Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).
The fund will support the purchase of a variety of kits that can be made and re-made into robots. Different engineering and computer strategies must be employed to build the robots.
Special competitions will be offered in the fall and spring semester for students to create and build robots during time-limited contests. The fund will support the purchase of four special kits.
Competitions will be announced at SOF meetings in Fall 2007.
