The 2006-2007 season marked a renewed focus on golf for the Comets. For the first time in the history of the program, a full-time golf coach, Eddie Bull (MAT '88) was hired. Coach Bull says his recruiting campaign is aggressive, "focusing on character-based golfers who are great students and citizens, in addition to being golfers with extraordinary talent."

While the UT Dallas men's golf team finished in seventh place and the women's team finished last during the American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament on April 23-24, 2007, Coach Bull says that he is "intent on winning championships for both the men's and women's programs, and returning to the top of the ASC."
The Comets last won a golf ASC Championship in 2003, when the men's team took the top prize and also featured four All-Conference players – Payton Cook, Clay Houser, Scott Maurer, and Evan Nash. Following this championship, Maurer and Cook went on to be All-Americans.
